Strengths
On paper, this is one of the most talented rosters in the league. Elly De La Cruz, Christian Walker, and Mike Trout in the same lineup is a lot to handle, and Paul Skenes gives Douglas a genuine frontline ace who can anchor the staff for years. JJ Wetherholt has emerged as a legitimate secondary bat, and Michael Harris II and Otto Lopez add the kind of quality depth you can build around. The ceiling on this team is real — it just hasn't been reached yet.
Weaknesses
Julio Rodriguez — supposedly the franchise centerpiece — has been a non-factor through the early weeks, which is exactly the structural risk that plagued this team in 2025. The rotation behind Skenes is shaky: Shane McClanahan, Eury Perez, and Jesus Luzardo are all question marks who have underperformed so far. The bullpen is patched together from scrap. When the top-end talent underperforms simultaneously, this roster doesn't have enough reliable mid-tier scoring to compensate — which is why a lineup that looks this good on paper is sitting at 1-3.
